Reflections I

Before coming to NIE, ICT to me was In-Camp Training; and before coming for the 1st session, I thought ICT had something to do with IT and how we can make use of IT to facilitate teaching. Well, I guess I underestimated the “power” of C in ICT. If there’s only one way communication, then it is not ICT.

It came as a surprise that we are going to learn certain ICTs which the current schools are not ready for. Judging by my ESE (Enhanced School Experience), ICT was not used extensively, neither was I impressed when it was being used. Therefore, I’m a little sceptical about extensive use of ICT in classrooms. Nonetheless, I come to this course with an open mind and hope that I’ll be part of a transition where ICT integrates effectively into classroom teaching.

  1. Haha, for a while I thought it was related to In-Camp-Training too.
My ESE school didnt use a whole lot of ICT, just visualizers and powerpoints. But we did use a tiny bit of ACE-Learning, which is a online tool for teachers to teach maths. It allows students to do some self-learning through interactive tools (eg. make their own pie chart) and quizes.
