Lesson planning is essential to conduct an efficient class. Without lesson planning, the lesson that will be conducted will be disorganized and students would not be able to learn in class. I learn that lesson objectives are important in class. Lesson objectives are the backbone in lesson planning since those objectives will determine the flow of the lessons. Another factor that I learn is that as teachers, it is very crucial to know who the learners are. Are they from the Express stream or Normal Technical stream? It will be also be beneficial if teachers know what type of background the students come from. Such distinctions are important since it requires different objectives to achieve in different types of classes. It is equally important to determine how much background knowledge they have. If the students are proficient in that topic, then the teacher has to adjust accordingly. Teachers have to have a gist of ‘ where’ the students are. I also learn how to write SIOs with the ABCD model. A stands for audience, B stands for Behaviour, C stands for Condition and D stands for Degree.
The first thing that I applied was to write the SIOs. It is actually difficult to write SIOs even as a group and even then there are many improvements that can be made. The second thing that I applied is to write up a lesson plan for our TEL. Similarly, this is also no easy task. Very difficult indeed. Trying to match the activities with the objectives. It’s like a matching game and my group keep changing our plans.
One thing I want to learn is to be an expert lesson planner. I really hope I can be one soon since practicum is coming soon.
